A word for HUMANITARIAN-ISM

Humanitarianism is an informal ideology of practice, whereby people practice humane treatment and provide assistance to others; it is the doctrine that people's duty is to promote human welfare."humanitarianism." - WordNet 3.0. Princeton University. 02 Jun. 2007.

In other word, Humanitarianism is the practice of treating others as we would like to be treated. It is a movement that promotes respect for others, selflessness and contribution to society in a positive way. Championing the ideology of humanitarianism is only a step in reducing the reasons why I am no longer at ease. If every one did their own little part to promote the ideology of offering help where they can, earth would be on a path to peace, and maybe a point of satisfaction. The ideology of capitalism and me, myself and I has had its champions for so long that it is not even a vocal message anymore. It only transmits itself in the subliminal. Children growing up in this society have dreams of riches for me. Ask any five year old what they want to be or have when they grow up. Their response " a lot of money so I can buy a Benz, and a house for my mama" I am looking forward to the day that a child's response would be, "well I hope I can be rich so that I can build a school in my home town because the one there needs to be repaired or replaced" Many people do not think this is possible. Sometimes, I seriously doubt that it is possible. Even in my idealism, I still want to be settled first before i think of helping otehrs. But my question is when should one become humanitarian? Should you be settled first? Are all humanitarians rich? And do you have to be wealthy to be a humanitarian? Well I believe the blind cant lead the blind so I believe you need some money to be able to help others but money is just one of the tools. We can give our time, our talents and sometimes our shoulder, maybe our writing. There is always a need that can be met that does not require money.

It would be nice if everyone was more considerate and willing to help unfortunately I know that that is just not reality. In this society, it is more inexcusable as they don't face the same struggles that the average person goes through. Back home in Nigeria, someone coming from a dirt poor background who manages to make it is not thinking about making his country a better place for people who used to be like him. He's thinking about making sure that his family never have to suffer like he did. Even if that means stockpiling enough money to last five generations. It's pretty much a case of Darwinism at it's best. Only the strong survive. Trample or be trampled upon. In England social and moral consciousness is much higher than that. Matter of fact you might say it's gone too far. Over there pets have more rights than homeless people. They are soon going to pass a law which ensures that pet owners maintain a certain standard of living environment for their pets or face prosecution. Who's sorting out the living conditions of the homeless people then? Who is caring if there are orphans and people with AIDS? A law like that just exhibits the innate selfishness of man. I bet you it was some animal lover who made sure that that law would be passed. How can you love animals more than your fellow man? Even the bible says in Psalm 64 vs 6 They make plans to do what is evil. They say, "We have thought up a perfect plan!" The hearts and minds of people are so clever! (wicked) in some versions.

At the end of the day, if we all took a moment to do our one good humanitarian deed of the day, maybe humanitarianism will take over from capitalism. Just maybe.

In Transition and Transit

It has been quite some time since I have been able to write on this. i have been moving, homeless, then moving and now I am settled... well at least till the next move. I have had time to think of how to put more of the reasons I am no longer at ease. i will be back in full force quite soon. I have a bone to pick with a couple of people, groups of people and myself. I cnat wait. Peace
